DATE

spring 2024

I designed and produced a full magazine publication from concept to completion, including identity development, editorial system creation, and layout execution. I created the bi-monthly Gen Z culture magazine Trendzee, applying branding across a 36-page issue and cover set while focusing on publication design principles such as grid systems, typographic hierarchy, and visual consistency.

Digital-native audiences consume most media on screens, reducing opportunities for meaningful physical engagement with editorial content. The objective was to design a print magazine that resonates with Gen Z values- authenticity, creativity, and individuality- while demonstrating mastery of structured editorial layout systems and brand continuity across long-form publication.

The primary audience consists of Gen Z readers interested in cultural trends and identity-driven topics. The magazine aims to appeal to readers seeking expressive, visually dynamic content that reflects their creative and non-traditional mindset.

I developed the name Trendzee, combining “trend” with “zee” to reference Gen Z identity and culture. The visual strategy balances expressive experimentation with structured editorial discipline. I implemented bold color palettes, organic type pairings, bleeding imagery, and unconventional layout treatments to reflect the audience’s creative energy, while maintaining readability through consistent grid logic and hierarchy. I designed a system of illustrated icons representing recurring editorial sections, ensuring recognizability across future issues.

This comprehensive publication project includes: magazine naming, logo, and identity, editorial grid and layout framework, typographic pairing and color direction, 36-page magazine layout, front and back cover design, and custom illustrated icons for recurring content categories. Work was executed using Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator, applying publication design best practices to maintain consistency across long-form content.

Results include a cohesive editorial identity demonstrating the ability to balance experimental aesthetics with structured layout systems. The project highlights my strengths in typography, hierarchy, and scalable publication design while showcasing my understanding of audience-driven visual storytelling.
